A Coles customer revealed how he got a free item at his local store after taking a closer look at his receipt.
In a new TikTok video, the Sydney buyer said he was alerted to details of Coles’ digitization policy by his sister.
Find out how the customer got free food from Coles
The supermarket states that if an item fetch a higher price than what it is advertised for, you are entitled to a refund and will receive the product for free.
To test the code, customer Coles and his sister bought a packet of discounted British Angus sausages during a recent shopping spree.
In a nifty hack, he then took a photo of the markdown sale receipt from the shelf where he picked up the item so that it had a record of the discounted sale price.
In the images, taken after going through the register, the customer compared the photo of the ticket price to what they were charged.
“Look what that tells us about these sausages,” the user said.
The camera then points to a photo taken on his phone that showed a reduced sales receipt, indicating that the sausages had been reduced to $ 5.63.
He added, “Now how much did they charge us? $ 7.50. “

The client then asked his sister, who was with him, if that meant they were now going to “get them for free?”
Her sister replied, “Yes, and they will refund your money. “
The once skeptical buyer then shared images of his receipts showing he was reimbursed for the $ 7.50 he paid for the sausages – then received the item for free.
The TikTok video was shared by the man’s sister, who said, “My brother didn’t believe this was working.”

She added, “Check your receipts folks!
“And if they tell you otherwise, post the policy on their website’s Frequently Asked Questions. “
The Coles website states that “If a single item is scanned for more than the advertised in-store or ticket price for that item, we will give you that item FREE. “

While all supermarkets adhere to the scanning code of practice, the user of TikTok – who uses the handle @ deet2020 – said many buyers were still unaware.
“There are THOUSANDS of people who don’t know, so I hope this helps someone,” she said.

Many TikTok users were grateful for the buying tip.
“Not all heroes wear capes,” said one.
Adding another: “Thanks for sharing, I had no idea! “
