Earn rewards

The Crypto.com Rewards Visa card allows cardholders to earn money in the form of CRO Rewards. CRO Rewards are Crypto.com’s cryptocurrency token, which can be redeemed on the crypto.com platform for other digital coins or even fiat currency.

Crypto.com’s Visa Rewards debit card is actually a series of cards. Each card level depends on how much you wager – the more you wager, the more perks and perks you can unlock. The highest card, Obsidian, for example, claims to offer up to 8% CRO on most purchases.

Unfortunately, the amount you need to put up makes the highest card irrelevant to all but the most dedicated crypto enthusiasts. Indeed, the two highest levels, Obsidian and Frosted Rose Gold / Icy White, are out of reach for the most part, making the advertised rate of “up to 8%” somewhat misleading.

Staking

Unlike other traditional credit and debit cards, the Visa Crypto.com Rewards Card requires you to “stake” funds. Staking involves more or less blocking your funds for a specified period of time with the specific platform. In the case of Crypto.com Rewards Visa, this would be Crypto.com and its CRO token. CRO token values vary depending on the crypto market and range between $ 0.09 and $ 0.12 as of February 2021. Essentially, users loan the card issuer with their cryptocurrencies and , in return, crypto.com offers an array of benefits.

The wagering requirement for the Crypto.com Rewards Visa is set in USD instead of CRO.

The funds involved must be held for six months. Once a cardholder withdraws their CRO, the benefits of each level will be reduced. To retain the rewards and benefits, users can keep CRO staking beyond the initial six-month staking period.

Redeem rewards

CRO rewards are earned on qualifying purchases and, depending on the level of card you hold, will earn you a certain percentage. CRO rewards are deposited into your account instantly.

  • Obsidian – Crypto’s top tier and most premium card, this card comes with a massive $ 400,000 wagering requirement. Obsidian earns 8% CRO rewards on card spend. Other perks include: a monthly refund on Spotify, Amazon Prime, and Netflix subscription services. Free ATM withdrawals are capped at $ 1,000 per month.
  • Frosted rose gold and icy white – The second highest Crypto cards. Users can choose either Frosted Rose Gold or Icy White color. The wagering requirement for this second level is $ 40,000, still insanely high. The benefits also diminish, although they still receive a monthly refund on the subscription services of Spotify, Amazon Prime, and Netflix. Frosted Rose Gold and Icy White earn 5% CRO rewards on card spend. Free ATM withdrawals are allowed up to $ 1,000.00 per month.
  • Indigo Royal and Jade Green – Crypto.com Rewards Visa third level cards are also available in two options, Royal Indigo or Jade Green. The wagering requirement for these cards is $ 4,000. Royal Indigo and Jade Green earn 3% CRO rewards on card spend. Additional benefits include a monthly refund on Spotify and Netflix subscription services. The free ATM withdrawal limit is $ 800 per month.
  • Ruby steel – Ruby Steel is the level 4 card. $ 400 staking is required. The benefits include a monthly refund of Spotify subscriptions. Ruby Steel earns 2% CRO rewards on card spend. The free ATM limits are $ 500 per month.
  • Midnight blue – The Midnight Blue Card is Crypto.com’s free option, which means there is no staking requirement. The card has very few advantages. Midnight Blue earns 1% CRO rewards on card spend. The ATM allowance with no monthly fee is $ 200.00. Plus, unlike higher level cards, which are metal, midnight blue is plastic.

Crypto Card Levels

As of February 2021, the market value of CRO Rewards is between $ 0.018 and $ 0.19. If you plan to cash out your CRO rewards for fiat currency, keep this value in mind. For example, if you own the Ruby Steel card that earns 2% CRO rewards and you make a purchase of $ 1,000, you will receive CRO rewards worth $ 20 in return based on the purchase price at the date of issue.

The benefits of spending on the highlighted income categories come in the form of reimbursements. Cardholders can get reimbursement per merchant per month and are actually capped as follows:

  • Spotify: $ 12.99
  • Netflix: $ 13.99
  • Expedia: $ 50.00
  • Amazon Prime: $ 12.99
  • Airbnb: $ 100.00

ATM fees are waived monthly, up to a dollar amount depending on the card. Once the limit is reached, the fee on the withdrawal amount is increased to 2% thereafter.

Reward potential

Forbes Advisor uses data from various government agencies to estimate and determine basic income and average spending in various categories for consumer credit cards. Salaried households in the 70th percentile earn about $ 100,172 per year and are reasonably able to charge $ 26,410 on credit cards each year.

Most families wouldn’t bet more in crypto than a premium credit card would, so we’ll base our assumptions on the Ruby Steel card. This card requires a wager of $ 400.

The Ruby Steel card earns 2% in CRO, so our household could earn $ 528.20 in CRO with all charges on the card. The rewards seem a bit smoother if you’re already a Spotify subscriber, as that tier gets a Spotify discount of up to $ 12.99 per month.
