POKEMON has been a favorite with players around the world for almost 25 years.

Here we take a look at all the Pokemon games in order …

Pokemon Red and Green was originally released in Japan

Pokémon Red and Green – February 1997

This Nintendo Game Boy game was originally released exclusively in Japan.

It featured 151 species of Pokémon and the ultimate goal was to become the best by conquering the league and completing the Pokédex.

Pokémon Red and Blue – September 1998

After its success in Japan, Pokemon Red and Blue was designed to take the rest of the world by storm.

The game was essentially a polished version of Pokemon Red and Green.

Pokémon Yellow – October 1999

After the Pokemon animated TV show, the game started to gain popularity.

This game released for Nintendo Game Boy Color and Game Boy Color was the first to feature Pikachu as an on-screen companion that followed players as they browsed the game.

Pokémon Gold and Silver – October 2000

Pokemon Gold and Silver launched a new look for the game on Game Boy Color

It also added 100 new Pokémon for players to catch.

Pokémon Crystal – July 2001

From this game, Pokemon started to focus more on giving players more options to customize their gaming experience.

It was the first title in the series that allowed players to choose their gender.

Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire – March 2003

It was the first game released for Nintendo Game Boy Advance and it added 135 species to the franchise.

With this game also came the introduction of two-on-two battles.

Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen – September 2004

Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen was essentially a remake of the first Pokémon games for the Nintendo Game Boy Advance.

Pokémon Emerald – May 2005

Emerald was the first Pokémon game to add the Battle Frontier area where Trainers had the chance to compete against other Trainers for Battle Points.

Pokémon Diamond and Pearl – April 2007

Pokemon Diamond and Pearl was Pokemon’s first appearance on the Nintendo DS.

Pokémon Platinum – March 2009

Pokémon Platinum was a follow-up title for Diamond and Pearl.

The game invited players to return to Sinnoh in another dimension.

Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver – March 2010

As the first remake of the series was a remarkable success, the creators decided to remake the original Gold / Silver.

The game had a new feature that allowed players to choose which Pokemon would follow them as they moved around the map.

Pokémon Black and White – March 2011

Pokemon Black and White added 156 new entries to the Pokédex and a new region called Unova.

New battle types have also been introduced including Triple Battle and Rotation.

Pokémon Black 2 and White 2 – October 2012

Pokémon Black 2 and White 2 was a sequel to Pokémon Black and White.

This brought players back to the Unova region two years after the first black and white games.

Pokémon X and Y – October 2013

Pokemon X and Y is the first game released for Nintendo 3DS.

The game has brought a lot of customization options including choosing your hairstyle, clothing, and skin color.

Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire – November 2014

Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire was another remake of an original game.

Pokemon Sun and Moon – November 2016

Pokémon Sun and Moon has launched 81 new species of Pokémon.

It also changed the story line – requiring players to complete trials before they could challenge Kahuna from an island.

Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon – November 2017

Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon was a sequel to Pokémon Sun and Moon.

It featured an alternate storyline with new characters and species of Pokémon.

Pokémon: Let’s go, Pikachu! and let’s go, Eevee!

Let’s go, Pikachu! and let’s go, Eevee! was created for the Nintendo Switch.

These were basically remakes of Pokemon Yellow – but the game also took inspiration from Pokemon Go.

Pokémon Sword and Shield – November 2019

Pokemon Sword introduced a new adventure to players.

It introduced the eighth generation of Pokémon and awesome 3D mechanics.
