Yes, that’s right, I bought a Nintendo Switch OLED model. If you’re reading the title thinking, “wow this person doesn’t seem to know what they’re talking about,” you’re right. That’s why I need your help deciding which Switch game I should play first.
I’ll be picking up the Switch this weekend and with so many different games available now, I’m having a hard time deciding which one I should play first.
It probably needs to be a game where it’s simple enough for me to learn the Switch controls while still giving me a bit of a challenge.
Also, hello! I am Ky.
Many of you may not know me, mainly because I normally work behind the scenes helping Ruby and David make Kotaku Australia (as well as Gizmodo Australia and Lifehacker Australia) as great as it is East. So nothing, I guess.
If you want to know a bit more about me, here is my introductory article that I wrote some time ago.
But I won’t be stalking you all in the shadow of the CMS anymore. It’s time for me to step into the light of the gamer.
The main reason I haven’t posted much on Kotaku Australia is that I’m pretty incompetent when it comes to the gaming world. But I’m also fascinated by it.
From the (mostly) loving community the game has created, to the weird and wonderful gadgets, to all the drama about the industry or the games themselves, I’m obsessed with it all.
That’s why I bought a Switch. Mainly to be able to play fun games, but also to be part of the wonderful Kotaku Australia community and learn from all of you.
I also want to help out some readers who might be like me and are interested in the gaming world but have limited knowledge about it.
This brings me to the next point, where you, the Kotaku Australia community, come into play.
I’m excited to bring you a new monthly segment where I ask for your recommendations and tips for Switch games I should play and test. I will then do a follow-up article on how these tips helped, or maybe hindered, me and my gaming experience as a noob.
So excuse me in advance, you’re going to see me a lot more.
I’m by no means a game virgin, but I’m certainly not as experienced as many of you, that’s why I’m looking for your help, advice and tips and tricks so that I too can become a game Master.
Also, please be nice to me, I’m just a humble, dumb little thing who doesn’t understand much about how to play but desperately wants to learn.
So if you’re thinking, “I won’t say this super simple advice that’s basically common sense. Seriously, anyone will figure this out without help”, I promise you, I lack a disturbing amount of common sense, so please give me any advice, no matter how simple you thought it was.
As I mentioned before, for the very first bit of the new segment, I ask you which game should be the very first one I play on the Switch.
I also want to know why I should play this game and not others. I’m incredibly indecisive and like to think things through before making a decision.
Oh, I would also like your recommendations on what we should call this Switch segment.
Here are some suggestions we have so far.
- Ky’s Stupid Switch Corner
- Come play with me
- Switch Gaming for Noobs
Obviously, it’s still a work in progress.
So give me your fucking ideas and opinions!
