Jean Smart and Hannah Einbinder Talk Love and Revenge in ‘Hacks’ Season 2 (VIDEO)

Season 2 of the HBO Max comedy hacks, which follows the unlikely working relationship between legendary comedian Deborah Vance (played brilliantly by the legendary Jean Smart) and impulsive comedian Ava Daniels (future legend Hannah Einbinder), picks up just after the events of the first season.

To recap, Deborah bombarded her new stage material and Ava, frustrated with her boss and also very drunk, sent a scathing email to TV show writers sharing too much about Deborah. In the new episodes, Deborah is surprisingly energized by her show’s tanking and decides to hit the road to try some new material. Ava, on the other hand, desperately tries to overwrite her email and its contents before Deborah finds out and sends her to the unemployment line.

“In a way, because they feel a little more comfortable with each other, in a way, it gives Deborah at least more freedom to be even worse at [Ava] sometimes because she knows she’s going to be forgiven even though she’s really awful to her,” Smart explains, adding that they are like two married people when it comes to how they treat each other sometimes. Einbinder adds that Ava is trying to “clean up her act” by living a sober life, including getting rid of her smart phone.

And is the romance there for Deborah or Ava? “Ava is having a romantic blast…it’s messy for sure,” Einbinder says, teasing that we’ll be seeing his former girlfriend Ruby in the new season.

As for Deborah, Smart says former casino boss Marty (Christopher McDonald) is still “behind the scenes”, but adds that Deborah is knocked out for a loop with another public humiliation in the first episode, but it ends up having a positive impact on his decision. on his next steps in his fractured career.

hacks presents two episodes on May 12 with two new episodes every week until June 2, HBO Max
