Each For Self is the name that stands out among the set of five that will be posted in the 2021 Tingle Creek Chase (Sandown, 14.25).
Willie Mullins is sending his two mile superstar to the UK for the second time in his career after disappointing in last season’s Queen Mother Champion Chase when he finished behind Put The Kettle On and Nube Negra.
NEW TO PADDY POWER?
The latter opposes Sandown today and Dan Skelton’s charge has already set a milestone by comfortably winning Shloer Chase last month, while Greaneteen’s connections may point to his victory in April’s Celebration Chase at Sandown as his solid piece of form.
Hitman and Captain Guinness round out the pack, but who does our panel of experts like? Below are their best bets and predictions for Tingle Creek!
Matt Chapman: I have long believed that CHACUN POUR SOI is an exceptional horse and I expect him to win this award for Irish champion Willie Mullins and his son Patrick.
Each For Self finished last season with a third behind Put the Kettle On in the Champion Chase, which was a shocking effort to be completely honest and I don’t think he was right. He went to Punchestown though, and slammed Allaho into Grade 1 there. At his best, he’s a monster.
Mick fitzgerald: I was guilty of underestimating certain Irish horses which had not raced and it cost me dearly. Each Pour Soi is pretty ahead of the notes and always looks to be better with one run under his belt, but he’s just got a little up his sleeve on a few of those notes and that could tip him over. . The negatives are obvious however, Patrick Mullins has his first ride here and his first horse ride. Add to that his need to run and he should be inexpensive too!
NUBE NEGRA is in good shape after a race in Cheltenham last month, is stronger this year and Team Dan Skelton is flying. This makes him the obvious choice to confront Each For Self. Greaneteen took Altior’s scalp at this track in the Celebration Chase earlier this year and is a horse that ran much better than the end result in Exeter last time around. Captain Guinness should be in good shape for this one as well.
Ruby walsh: CHACUN POUR SOI has only raced once in the UK and Sandown will suit him. He’s in very good shape and he’s a great jumper. You could argue in favor of Nube Negra for the Skelton’s but Each For Self will take a lot of hits.
Frank Hickey: CHACUN POUR SOI may have been disappointing as he was only third at Champion Chase last March, but I’m not sure Cheltenham is the most suitable track for him and he was a completely different proposition in Punchestown. when he was a broad winner of the Champion. Chase there, with Nube Negra over 24 lengths in third that day.
Each has only been defeated twice in nine starts for Willie Mullins and when he’s at his best he’s capable of putting on a monster performance. As he concedes the match’s fitness to his four rivals here, there is no doubt that if he does his best he will win. The only problem is its price. It’s worth doing a little kick on Everyone to win by five lengths or more and Nube Negra to finish second. Last season in Everyone’s four wins he came out 19, 6.5, 8 and 5.5 lengths and the Sandown track will suit his style. I see Patrick Mullins take an easy lead here and he will turn the screw leaving his back straight, because it is in this part of the race that everyone seems to put their races to bed. Because of this he can cover the distance of all five lengths while for me there is no doubt that Nube Negra has the second best form in the race and has himself been quite impressive winning the Shloer Chase at Cheltenham the month last. If he can run in that kind of form here, he is most likely to chase Everybody For Himself in his home.
Time form: CHACUN POUR SOI may have swelled its lines in the Queen Mother Champion Chase at Cheltenham, but it has been compelling on the other 4 starts at Level 1 over the past 22 months, including in the Punchestown Champion Chase when it was last seen in April, and is clearly the one to beat. Nube Negra and Greaneteen are top-notch opponents, with the former seen as the main threat.
