Warner Bros. TV hit back at Tuesday’s accusations by “Batwoman” star Ruby Rose regarding her time working on The CW series and the abusive workplace that led her to quit the show, claiming the actress had been fired after “several complaints” about her behavior. .
The studio said in a statement to TheWrap on Wednesday: “Despite the revisionist story that Ruby Rose is now sharing online aimed at producers, cast and crew, the network and the Studio, the truth is that Warner Bros. Television had decided not to exercise her option to hire Ruby for season two of “Batwoman” based on several complaints about workplace behavior that were widely reviewed and dealt with in private out of respect for all concerned.
A person familiar with Rose’s exit said that investigations into these complaints about Rose went on for months before Warner Bros. TV does not choose not to choose its option for season 2.
Late Tuesday, Rose opened up about her “Batwoman” release last year, detailing the tough working conditions she and others faced on the CW series. In a lengthy Instagram story posted last night, Rose made several accusations against some of her former co-stars, including her onscreen father Dougray Scott, as well as former Warner Bros TV chairman Peter Roth.
“Enough is enough,” Rose wrote in the post, identifying “Batwoman” host Caroline Dries, as well as Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter of the show’s production company, Berlanti Productions. “I’m going to tell the whole world what really happened to me on this set. I will come for you so that what happened to me never happens to another person again. And so I can finally get my life and the truth back. Shame on you.”
Rose first called Roth directly, speculating on leaving the studio this year.
“I don’t know if you left after being promoted to the top position because you just couldn’t stop smoothing your pants, around your crotch while you were still wearing said pants or if you left afterwards. putting a private investigator on me who shot you as soon as the report didn’t match your story, anyway, ”Rose wrote. “When it comes to you, there is already an army waiting for you.”
A source close to the production on ‘Batwoman’ told TheWrap on Wednesday: ‘These are slanderous and unfounded accusations against Peter. He is one of the most respected executives in the industry.
Shortly after Rose left the show in May 2020, she explained that being the head of any project is ‘taxing’ and that ‘Batwoman’ was especially difficult for her after returning to work after a neck surgery following a stunt gone awry. . But in her new Instagram post, the actress said Roth had forced her back to work after the operation, making her feel guilty with the idea that “all of the cast and crew would be fired and I let everyone down “and that” I just lost the millions of studios. The actress added that she was devastated to have to miss San Diego Comic Con in 2019 because of her injury, but that she was asked to cover her surgical scars in the video announcing her absence.
Season 2 of “Batwoman” saw Javicia Leslie take over from Rose, with Leslie introduced as a completely original character named Ryan Wilder. When news of Rose’s exit arrived, showrunner Dries vowed that Rose’s character, Kate Kane, would not be killed. Instead, Wallis Day was cast in the role, with the change of actresses explained by Alice’s (Rachel Skarsten) ability to give people new faces.
In her remarks on Tuesday, Rose also accused her former “Batwoman” co-star Scott, who played Jacob Kane on the show until its release earlier this year, of abusing women on set.
“Dougray hurt a female understudy, he screamed like a little bitch at women and was a nightmare,” Rose wrote. “He left when he wanted and arrived when he wanted. He abused women and in turn as the frontman of a show I sent an email asking for a no screaming policy they refused. “
Rose also criticized showrunner Dries, saying she had only come four times in a year, which Rose noted as “UNHEARD OF”. During one of those visits, Rose said Dries encouraged her to comply with the private investigator hired by Roth.
“In closing, please my dear, dear fans, stop asking if I will return to this horrible show, I will not come back for a sum of money or if a gun is pointed at my head. . ”Rose added. “NEITHER HAVE I STOPPED. I DON’T STOP, they ruined Kate Kane and they destroyed Batwoman, not me.
Representatives for Scott and The CW did not immediately respond to TheWrap’s request for comment regarding Rose’s accusations.
