Will Smith won Best Actor in a Motion Picture on Sunday night at the 2022 SAG Awards for his portrayal of Richard Williams, the father of tennis icons Venus and Serena Williams in King Richard.

During her acceptance speech at the Barker Hanger in Santa Monica, Smith thanked the Williams family and her co-stars.

“It was perhaps one of the greatest moments of my career right now because my name was called for King Richard sitting next to Venus Williams,” he said to applause. The actor and producer then began to shed tears when he called working with the cast of the film “one of the greatest pleasures of my life.”

Smith went on to praise the man he portrayed on screen. “Richard Williams is a dreamer like no one has ever known. He has a power of belief that borders on madness and sometimes swings over the line, which is absolutely necessary to take something from impossible to possible. said Smith, wiping away her tears.
